How is matcha different from regular green tea?

Think of it as the difference between eating an orange and drinking orange-infused water. The Consumption: With regular green tea, you steep leaves and throw them away. With matcha, you are drinking the actual leaf ground into a fine powder. The Cultivation: Matcha is shade-grown for 3–4 weeks before harvest. This "stress" forces the plant to overproduce chlorophyll and amino acids. The Fact: Because you ingest the whole leaf, a single cup of matcha can contain up to 10 times the antioxidants (specifically EGCG) of a cup of steeped green tea.

This is the most common reason people switch from coffee. It’s all about a "magic" amino acid called L-theanine. The Science: Matcha contains a high concentration of L-theanine, which promotes relaxation without drowsiness. When paired with caffeine, it creates a "time-release" effect. The Result: Instead of the sharp spike and crash of coffee, L-theanine smooths out the caffeine absorption, leading to 4–6 hours of "calm alertness." A study in Nutrients (2021) confirmed that this combo improves attention and reduces "brain fog" more effectively than caffeine alone.

Why does matcha give me energy without the "coffee jitters"?
Does matcha actually help with weight loss?

It’s not a miracle "belly fat melter," but it is one of the few natural substances backed by metabolic studies. The Mechanism: Matcha is rich in catechins (EGCG), which can boost thermogenesis—the rate at which your body burns calories. The Fact: Research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that consuming green tea extract can increase the body’s fat-burning rate during moderate exercise by about 17%. It’s a great workout partner, but it won’t replace a balanced diet.

The difference between
"Ceremonial" and
"Culinary" grade?

Social media often makes this confusing, but it’s actually quite simple: Ceremonial Grade: Made from the youngest, most tender tea leaves from the first harvest. It is stone-ground, vibrant green, and tastes naturally sweet/umami. This is meant to be whisked with just water. Culinary Grade: Made from older, tougher leaves from later harvests. It has a bolder, more astringent (bitter) flavor and a duller green color. This is designed to hold its flavor when mixed with milk (lattes) or flour (baking).
